1) Hi, I am Bikram, Technical Advisor of Rig SEO Service, I am here to provide you few tips on Google Penguin 2.0 update released on 22nd May 2013, this month. This is a major algorithm update by Google & in the last year April 2012 the Penguin 1.0 was introduced by Google publicly. After viewing this whole video you will get some idea on Google Penguin 2.0.

2) Before diving for Google Penguin, know something on Google Panda filter first. Google Panda is a filter used on websites in internet to find out the duplicate content, thin content and spun content.

Duplicate content means if two or more pages have same textual content in same website, or different websites or even different sites or domains hosted on different servers. Here same textual content is not self explanatory. You may think two lines of two sites can be same, but Google isnot much bothered about that. But if large chunk of text matches then this becomes an issue.

Thin content : If you have many webpages having very little textual content then those pages will be picked up by Google Panda filter and you can loose ranks for it in Google.

Spun content: This is related to content spinning and many times implemented by many websites. What they do- they change few words phrases in one webpage and use synonyms to make new pages, but if you look at the theme both pages are same. Mainly it is used by article sites. Spun content may be used across domains.

3) So what Google Penguin does ? Google penguin 2.0 is a totally separate algorithm and not directly related to Google Panda. They mainly checks the backlinks of a site or domain and looks after the whole link profile of that site.

It checks the anchor text of backlinks: If you use the same anchor text in lots of backlinks it will be traced easily by Google Penguin. Say if you use “Pizza Hut” in all the links thats a bad thing. Don’t over use it. Just use it in 20% or 30% backlinks, in the rest use “Click here”, “Visit our website”, this type of natural links.

To survive Google Penguin you have to get links naturally, or seems natural. You have to get links from related blogs, forums, video sites, wikipedia, social sites etc. You also should get links from social bookmarks, facebook, Google+ pages.

4) Google Penguin 2.0 mainly targeted the advertorial sites.
5) Google penguin heavily targeted the link selling websites.
6) Now if you want to survive in Google top ranking you have to earn some kind of recognition. You should place your site to Google as a reputed website on your niche.

To earn recognition you need to spend hours by blogging, attending the discussion forums, replying to the queries etc. You should participate in the social sites, spread your words virally.
7) Go social: make posting in social media sites like FB, Twitter, G+ and also post your page URLs, infographics, Photos, banners on your business.
8) Implement content marketing : you have to build some good content in your websites and have to do some guest blogging, participating in discussion forums, blogs, social sites, have to make videos and lots of other jobs. Now content marketing is the most important thing.
9) Also get backlinks from related websites on your niche, related forums, blogs, video sites, wikis etc.
10) Donot target the money keywords, the major high competitive keywords which is highly searched in Google, but in reality they are very tough to get ranks.
11) Better target long tail keywords, keywords having 4/5 words in them.
12) Constantly carry on keyword research, choose good contemporary keywords and go for low competitive keywords.
13) In the backlinks use your brand name in some links in addition to the keywords.

Start tagging with the most important keywords. Put the multiword phrase or keyword in parenthesis so they appear as a phrase in tagging.

Apparently it may seem to you that these are totally separate two fields of marketing, but in reality they have linkage among them. I am showing you here how social links can help you in seo, irrespective of dofollow or nofollow.

So first question is what is social media links or social links ?

I think all of you have used some kind of social media like facebook, twitter, Google+ etc social platforms. In them you have often shared some existing webpage by just copy pasting the URL (address) of that page into the text box of Facebook, Google+ to make a fresh new post and you saw the short form of that webpage appears in your facebook or Google+ timeline or wall whatever you say.

Another form of social links we have seen in Twitter. That is inside a tweet you can post a long URL and that becomes shortened automatically, because twitter has some kind of URL shortener service in it intrinsically.

So firt thing first, you need a good webpage to promote in your niche by social media. So this webpage / URL to be promoted in FB, Twitter, Google+. I shall recommend you to add social buttons in your webpage firstly, I hope you have already seen these type of buttons in many blogs, even in this article this type of buttons exists. I shall create another technical tutorial on those. So if nobody has liked or shared you page you start it yourself, by your own account.

Post in your facebook account with the link of this page, do one / two tweets in twitter and also add some comment on your URL / webpage. So what happens, your followers, friends, circles (G+) get awared about your content and if they get interested they will visit your website content and if they are interested then they will retweet, share it again in their own circles.

Links are dofollow or nofollow ? Will they work ?

There is a controversy among the dofollow and nofollow links for years started by Google on PageRank (PR) calculation issue. Recently we have seen that Google will degrade you links even they are dofollow from low grade pages. So I personally suggest you not to bother too much about that issue on social platforms, when i have started to use Twitter for first time, I used anchor text in twitter and also then twitter provided dofollow links in all tweets, but now time has changed in 2013.

So what type of links you can get in social platforms?

1. Profile links, when you create account you can type your URL even with anchor text.
2. Promoted page in tweets, posts described above.
3. Links in the RSS feeds.
4. Shortented URLs.
5. Dofollow links, but few social platforms allows this.

First thing you should keep in mind – donot try to cheat the search engines, they are smart enough to track the tricks you do programmatically or non-programmatically.

To build up a site just keep an eye on the following

• Choose a good hosting, which is reliable fast.
• Choose a good CMS like WordPress Joomla etc in PHP Platforms. If you choose other platforms then choose some other good CMS (content management systems)
• Build up good content in the inner pages.
• Good content means unique non-duplicate having 200 or more words in the pages. Now specially Google is searching for good content.
• Use Google Analytics and Google Webmasters Tools (GWT) to keep an eye on the visitors – how long they stay in your website.
• User’s experience is a factor now, Google uses user-statistics coming from the above tools to gather an idea on a website.

Now try to avoid the following -

Duplicate Content -Never use the contents from other sites to build up quickly. It can ruin your seo venture.

Keyword Stuffing : Never stuff keywords in the pages, they will eventually degrade your ranking.

Donot use same anchor text in the links- In past this was not at all bad. But now Google is emphasizing on building links naturally. So you can use anchor texts on 20% of total links.

Use META Description in the pages : Many people thinks this is not at all required for seo, but eventually it shown good results in the search engines. To follow the best practices always try to use relevant good descriptive META in the page. Believe me it will do good for you and wont harm your ranking.

Use versatile link profile : Make sure you get links from versatile type of websites, like blogs, forums, normal websites, humm some comments, profile pages, local business page profiles, social media platform etc. And dont forget what I have mentioned as anchor text.

Try to go for the multi-channels marketing and don’t depend solely on Google- This is a very important part of this article. Many businesses crashed because their business models were fully dependent on Google ranking. You must keep in mind that Google Yahoo bing are doing business, they can change their business policy anytime without notice, and if you become too inclined on them it is highly risky for your business. So always use the following marketing channels-

• Twitter
• Facebook
• LinkedIn
• Google+
• Hi5
• Youtube

Not only seo you can good business by these channels. So my strong suggestion is donot depend on Google, and donot ignore Yahoo bing on the marketing factors.

Don’t forget the basic words of seo i.e ‘content is king’ : The best way to improve your site’s ranking is to add unique content targeted to your audience which must be written for the public not for BOTs. Never write for the search engines, it is human readers who matters to your business, so always keep in mind about your readers, visitors, audience.

* Pick up the right keywords for the webpages, choose the key terms, search phrases that your audience likely to use for searching the content like yours. Use those terms to guide the construction of your website text and pages.

* TITLE is always an important factor & should match search terms. Choose terms for your page titles that match the content of your documents.

* Use META Description tag – write your webpage META Description accurately and carefully. After the TITLE tag, the META Description is the most important for the users. Make sure the document TITLE tag, the META Description attract the eyes of the users as well as match the content on your site and contains the search phrases descently.

* Use Keyword META Tag if possible for each webpage- Use small, concise and distinct lists of keywords that relate to each specific page on the site.

* Keep relevant text and links in HTML. Avoid using graphics or image links or image maps can which can prevent search engines from finding the text or following links to your website’s other pages.

* Add an HTML or XML site map to your website, link it from your home page.

* Use ALT text for graphics. ALT text improves the text content of your page for search purposes. It also makes your pages more accessible to text-only browsers and visually impaired site visitors.

* Correspond with webmasters of related sites and other providers of relevant content to get links to your site from their sites.

• Try to remove incoming links which Google might consider as spam links. Remove low quality backlinks from off-topic sites.
• Avoid participating in any shady link building schemes.
• Avoid using low quality link directories, say 2000 directories. No need to do it now.
• Try to delete Dead Links — Even if they are not troubling you with Penguin, but dead links are not useful to your visitors.
• Besides these, be sure that your website’s robots.txt, XML sitemaps, search engine webmaster registrations, etc. are up-to-date.
• Try to get high quality Links, thematic links pointing to Your Site.
• Get links from relevant websites on your niche. This is a very important factor. It will be best if you can get some good links from authority websites on your niche.
• To rank well you need to establish your website into a authority website in your niche. Now good authoritative websites are ranking well in Google
• At last, file a reconsideration request to Google.
